Range: Mexico, Central America and into South America

Grain: Violet when first sawn, heartwood oxidizes quickly to a deep purple-brown that contrasts dramatically with it's creamy sapwood. Dense and somewhat brittle, but patience yields an exceptional finish that can be developed on its fine grained surface.
